TCA is trichloroacetic acid used to provide a medium depth peel to the skin. It is used to treat wrinkles, fine lines, superficial blemishes, pigmentation and sun damage, as well as for precancerous lesions like actinic keratoses. This treatment can help to remove abnormal skin cells. This peel can be used to treat any area of the body and takes only minutes to complete. There are significant cosmetic benefits to this procedure as well. The TCA Peel is one of the most innovative ways to easily and optimally rejuvenate the skin using a special formulation. The main advantage of the TCA peel over other peels is that it has a pasty like texture which makes the application very easy and also ensures even uptake into your skin.

The Treatment -

Treatment is administered in a single session, with a duration of around 10-12 minutes. During this period, you may experience a slight burning sensation. This sensation is not severe, no sedation or anaesthesia is required.

When TCA is applied to the skin, it causes the top layers of cells to dry up and peel off over a period of several days. When the old skin has peeled off, it exposes a new layer of undamaged skin which has a smoother texture and more even colour.

At the end of your treatment session, you will be provided with a treatment information leaflet. This document acts as a reference card to enable you to maximise the benefits of your treatment.

Downtime & Recovery -

TCA peels are safe and very effective with minimal risk and downtime. The downtime for a TCA peel is 3-7 days depending on depth, as the new layer of skin appears 3 - 7 days after treatment. About two weeks after treatment, the skin will be fully healed. TCA doesn’t go as deep as the deeper peels but has a better safety record. The best depth of a peel is best judged by your surgeon/physician who can consider your skin type and history to give you the best result. During recovery, it is important for the patient to follow the instructions given by the doctor who applied the TCA peel. It is advisable to limit the sun exposure for some days after treatment. We all are different so have varying experience with the different peeling agents.

Risks and Complications -

TCA peels are safe when performed by an experienced doctor. The risk/complications are rare but may include the following:

Common risks are redness or bruising, stinging, swelling, crusting, all of which should subside within a day or two after the treatment.

The rare risks are the infection, skin discolouration, bumps and nodules.

The TCA Peel Results -

The TCA peel works by causing sloughing or removal of the upper layers of skin. Normally these are the layers that are damaged by the elements such as sun, wind and general neglect. By removing the upper layers of skin, the overall skin texture is dramatically smoothed, superficial wrinkles are quickly eliminated and colour irregularities are improved. It has been used for many years to treat facial wrinkles, age spots, pigment abnormalities, mask of pregnancy and other superficial skin problems such as sun damaged skin, (Including pre-cancerous lesions), acne / acne scarring, freckles, appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and the appearance of superficial scars.

Patients benefit by regaining a fresher more vibrant appearance. For best results, patients should complete a prescribed series of treatments. At Aesthetic Beauty Centre, we recommend 2-3 months gap for each treatment.

Qualified doctors/nurses will discuss the procedure before any treatment, explaining any possible side effects.
