Eczema is a very common condition which in some form, at some time, affects more than half the population. Eczema is simply an inflammation of the skin, which can have many causes.

We know there are many different causes of eczema, several of which are inherited, but regardless of the cause, the changes that occur in the skin are very similar.

Treatment of Eczema

There are two effective anti-inflammatory treatments:

Cortisone Treatment:

This is usually applied to the skin in the form of lotions, creams or ointments. Cortisone in the form of a compound called prednisone can also be taken orally. Cortisone treatments have numerous associated side effects from both short term and prolonged usage.

Ultraviolet Treatment:

(Conventionally in the form of PUVA)
Ultraviolet B light has also been used in the treatment of eczema but in the past has been less effective than PUVA therapy. Narrow-band UVB phototherapy, utilised in the BClear® laser PhotoClearing treatment for eczema is more effective and may clear many patients with eczema.

The precision dosimetry and small beam output of the BClear® system also allows individually customised treatments that safely and effectively treat all body surface locations and skin types (I-VI).
