Blepharoplasty is often carried out as a day case procedure, where upon the upper and lower lids can be treated together or separately.

The treatment for lower eyebag surgery or lower eyelid surgery consists of a fine incision being made below the eyelash, allowing the Doctor to remove any excess fat and trim loose skin. The upper eyelids are corrected by removing a strip of skin and any excess fat in the crease of the eyelid.

The surgery can be carried out using either a general anaesthetic or in some cases a local anaesthetic may be all that is required prior to treatment.

The eyes have it!

What happens before treatment?

Now what should I do?

What causes Eye Bags?

Eye bags are caused by loose skin and relaxed muscles in the eyelids, usually a sign of age creeping upon us. Also surplus fatty tissue can cause the upper eyelid to become hooded.

What happens after treatment?

The Doctor will advise you how long to stay off work depending on the extent of your treatment. You will need to take rest and avoid bending over. An eye ointment may be given to you, which you will need to use as recommended by your Doctor. It's also important to keep the eyes dry and clean, until the stitches are removed. Resting your head in an elevated position on pillows for 4 nights will help reduce swelling and speed the recovery. Try to avoid rubbing your eyes with a towel after washing.
