Laser or Radio-frequency (RF) is an effective and minimally invasive treatment for excessive sweating.

The treatment is delivered through a 3-4mm incision, hence scarring is not a concern. 1064nm ND: YAG laser is used to target the sweat glands in the axilla (underarm) and destroy them.

The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic and takes less than an hour.  The patient can resume normal activities within a few hours and full recovery is expected in 3-7 days.

We expect 70-80% reduction of underarm sweating. Few patients report a recurrence of symptoms after 3-5 years and the treatment can be repeated for long term results.

Qualified doctors will discuss the procedure before any treatment, explaining any possible side effects.

Laser Ablation of Sweat Glands (LASG)

Destruction of sweat glands with laser has been developed from the same principles of the Smartlipo or Laser-lipolysis machine which is used to destroy pockets of fat under the skin.

It is performed on the axilla or underarms under local anaesthetic; two small incisions are made and the dermis is separated from the underlying sub-cutaneous tissue. A 600 micron (0.6 mm) optic fibre is inserted and the laser is fired at the sweat glands, which are destroyed and removed by curettage.

Although LASG is a successful and potentially permanent surgical treatment option for axillary hyperhidrosis, it has not been subjected to clinical testing and is not widely available in the UK at the present time, however, we offer it here at the Aesthetic Beauty Centre.
