FAQs of VASER Liposuction- Answers by Dr Ashish Dutta

Are you suffering from excess fat and looking for minimally invasive VASER Lipo but have lack of knowledge for this revolutionary technique. Don't worry! Answers given by Dr Ashish Dutta will clear all your doubts.

1. What is VASER liposuction?

VASER (Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy) liposuction (also known as VASER lipo, LipoSelection or Ultrasonic liposuction) is an advanced body contouring, the minimally-invasive ultrasonic technique for unwanted stubborn fat removal from a different area(s) of your body which combines ultrasonic waves (inaudible sound wave) with liposuction technology. The ultrasonic waves precisely break up and liquefies/emulsifies targeted fat which is safely removed by liposuction with minimal damage to the surrounding tissue.

2. How does VASER lipo differ from traditional liposuction?

As the VASER lipo utilizes a minimally-invasive ultrasonic technique for unwanted stubborn fat removal where high-frequency ultrasonic waves precisely break up and liquefies/emulsifies targeted fat without disrupting surrounding connective tissue, nerves or blood vessels resulting in minimal scarring, bruising and bleeding with minimal downtime and a faster recovery as compared to traditional liposuction. This technique also facilitates the liposuction process because the ultrasonic waves liquefy the fat prior to removal resulting in minimal pain as compared to traditional liposuction.

3. Who is a candidate for VASER lipo?

Generally a healthy person with an active lifestyle having stubborn area(s) of accumulated fat (without loose skin) which cannot seem to shift despite attempts through diet and/or exercise and looking for minimally invasive treatment to contour the body and would like to return to normal activities as soon as possible with a shorter recovery period.

4. Is LipoSelection right for you?

There are limits as to how much fat can be safely removed from the body depending on the individual. A good way to judge for yourself is by standing and bending from the waist. The amount of loose fat you can grab above or below the waist will guide you how much needs removing.

5. What are the different types of VASER lipo?

There are mainly three different types of VASER technology known for VASER liposuction:

  • Standard def VASER lipo- It simply removes the bulk of unwanted fat.

  • VASER Hi-Def- It is also sculpting/contouring but creates more of a static look.

  • VASER 4D- It is generally performed to create an athletic or more contoured silhouette that takes muscle motion into consideration. The most popular are abdominal etching creating the coveted ‘six pack’. VASER 4D is suitable for generally healthy people who struggle to get rid of fat in specific areas including the hips, thighs, abdomen, lower back, arms and chin.

VASER Hi-Def and VASER 4D are particularly popular with men looking to achieve athletic toning.

6. What body areas can be treated via VASER lipo?

It is safe for most of the body areas having stubborn fat deposits which most commonly include: abdomen, thighs, flanks/love-handles, back, female breasts, chest/male breasts (Gynaecomastia), buttocks, face, neck, chin, lower legs, upper arms can be treated.

7. How much fat can be taken?

Your surgeon will discuss with you how much fat will be removed during your procedure. However, the recommended safe amount is 3 litres of fat.

8. Can you treat multiple areas at once?

Yes, multiple areas can be treated at the same time, however here at ‘Aesthetic Beauty Centre’, Dr Ashish Dutta does not prefer to treat more than three areas at a time. This is in keeping with the brand’s ethical vision.

9. What technology is used in VASER liposuction and how does it work?

VASER liposuction combines ultrasonic waves (inaudible sound wave) with liposuction technology where ultrasonic waves precisely break up and liquefy/emulsifies targeted fat which emits from a thin ultrasound probe. The liquefied fat is then safely extracted with a thin metallic tube called cannula through keyhole incisions.

10. Is VASER lipo performed under local anaesthetic (LA), general anaesthetic (GA), or sedation? What is the difference between the three?

Here at ‘Aesthetic Beauty Centre, we give you the option of local anaesthetic or sedation, both of which are ‘outpatient’ procedures (there is no overnight stay at the hospital and you can go home after your treatment).

General anaesthesia is only performed at a hospital and is usually performed as an inpatient procedure with the possible overnight stay.

Local anaesthesia is where only the areas to be treated are anaesthetized and you are still awake during the entire process. Sedation is an induced state of sleep but you are still conscious, responsive and breathing for yourself; your state is monitored constantly by an anaesthetist. With sedation, the likelihood of pain is significantly reduced and most report no pain or discomfort whatsoever. When performed under sedation the overall results may be improved.

11. Does VASER liposuction get rid of cellulite?

Yes, VASER lipo can help to reduce the appearance of cellulite, however, there are no guarantees.

12. What are the risk and complication of VASER lipo?

VASER Lipo is a minimally invasive cosmetic surgery which is FDA-approved and causes little or no damage to surrounding tissue. VASER liposuction technology greatly reduces risks and complications as compared to traditional liposuction.

The most common risks include: pain, swelling, bruising and scarring.

The less common risks include:  irregularities, bleeding, seroma (fluid collection), skin damage, numbness, or poor results.

There are extremely rare risks such as infection and circulation problems. Some of the risks can be reduced by following the recommended aftercare outlined by the surgeon.

13. How soon will I see my results?

You can see the result immediately after the procedure but for the final result, you have to wait longer than 3 months until all bruising and scarring will go away.

14. What is my anticipated recovery time?

VASER Lipo procedure involves minimal downtime with fastest recovery period (generally within one to two weeks) as the incisions are minimal and blood loss is very less during surgery. However, you will still experience some soreness, bruising and swelling, which will heal over the first few weeks of recovery. The keyhole incisions made during the procedure usually heal very well with minimal visibility.

15. How long do I have to wait to resume my routine?

You can resume your daily routine almost immediately or after 2-3 days of surgery, depending on which area you have had the treatment. We advise avoiding any rigorous physical activity like swimming, gym or exercise for at least a couple of weeks.

16. Does VASER liposuction help me to lose weight?

No, VASER Lipo is not a solution for weight loss. This procedure is intended to remove stubborn fat deposits in a person who is otherwise fit and healthy. You can gain the weight back after surgery, although the weight may be (due to fat deposits) in a different area. To maintain results, you must continue to pursue a healthy lifestyle.

17. If I gain weight, will the fat return to the body area that was removed via VASER lipo?

This can happen but is less likely. If you gain the weight back after surgery, the weight (due to fat deposits) may be in a different area. To maintain results, you must continue to pursue a healthy lifestyle.

18. What else should I be aware of? What are my other options for body contouring?

Look for a doctor who has good experience and reviews with VASER liposuction.

Other alternative options: Aesthetic Beauty Centre is able to offer both surgical and non-surgical fat removal treatments. Popular fat removal treatments include Aqualyx, BodyTite, Laser Lipolysis, Liposculpture, SmartLipo, Tummy Tuck/Abdominoplasty, Vaser Liposelection and Carboxytherapy. However, based on patient reviews, VASER lipo appears to be the most effective and remains very popular among our patients.
