Do you want to lose that 'double chin' and have a more streamlined jaw line? Are you overweight with fatty areas out of proportion to your body? If you answered ‘yes’ to any of the questions above; you may benefit from this new procedure known as Liposculpture.
Liposculpture is not an alternative to weight loss, nor will cellulite and loose skin be cured by this technique. The best candidates are people who are close to their ideal weight but who have stubborn fatty deposits in localised areas of their bodies.
Liposculpture is also known as tumescent liposuction, it differs considerably from conventional liposuction. It is safer and far less traumatising to the body because it employs miniature instruments for extraction and requires local anaesthetic using Klein’s solution. Liposculpture is for those who want to achieve a streamlined, more flattering appearance.
The concept of Liposculpture is a simple one. It improves body contour by permanently removing stubborn fat deposits between the skin and muscle. Liposculpture has evolved from merely removing bulges to transforming a patient's entire figure. An understanding of proportion and the ability to safely remove enough fat to change the lines and symmetry of the body have made Liposculpture an effective procedure for clients that have had limited success with diet and exercise programmes.
Am I a Candidate for VASER liposuction?
If you are a healthy person with an active lifestyle having a stubborn area(s) of accumulated fat which cannot seem to shift despite repeated attempts through diet and/or exercise.
If you are looking for an athletic appearance and would want to get back to normal activities with a faster recovery period than traditional liposuction.
If you are looking for less invasive and low pain treatment option to contour your body.
Which areas can be treated?
Liposculpture can benefit almost all areas where fat accumulates. The most common areas include:
Inner and outer thighs
Flanks or "love handles"
What is the procedure?
Liposculpture is usually carried out under local anaesthesia in our own clinic but in some cases sedation may also be used depending on patient and surgeon’s preference. Just before surgery, a medicated tumescent saline solution (Klein’s Solution) is injected into the treatment site to numb and expand the area so that there is less damage to surrounding tissue. This fluid also helps to shrink the blood vessels which minimize blood loss and reduce bruising. The saline solution goes into the area, that needs treating, which then makes it easier to soften the fat, enabling it to flow through even the smallest cannula.
After this a thin, hollow instrument (typically 3-5mm in diameter) called a cannula is used to perform the procedure. The cannula is inserted through a small incision placed in an inconspicuous location near the area to be treated. Unwanted fat deposits are removed through the cannula using a vacuum, with micro-cannulas (typically 1-3mm in diameter) used to provide more precise sculpting. This method of fat removal is surprisingly easy and permanent. It usually causes minimal bleeding, swelling and bruising. Approximately 2-3 hours are required to perform the procedure. Patients are encouraged to remain active immediately following the procedure.
Downtime and recovery-
Patients can enjoy a reduced recovery time as the incisions are small and blood loss is minimal during surgery. They can usually return to work within a few days. Most of the normal activities can be resumed within a week. Strenuous exercise and activities such as running, swimming should not be carried out for about three weeks following the procedure.
Risks and complications -
Liposculpture is a relatively safe outpatient procedure with few risk factors. The most common risks include: pain, swelling, bruising and scarring. Choosing a qualified and experienced cosmetic surgeon greatly decreases these risks and other complications.
Liposculpture versus Liposuction?
Benefits of Liposculpture include reduced bruising, minimal blood loss and reduced pain, both during and after the procedure. In addition, a more refined result is achievable than with conventional liposuction, since the patient can stand or kneel as the procedure is performed. The figure can be sculptured more evenly and skillfully to create a superior result, providing a smoother appearance and better skin retraction.
Will I need to have excess skin removed?
Usually there is no need to remove any excess skin following treatment. The skin is an organ which has elasticity and in the majority of cases shrinks to accommodate the new body contour. For some patients, the excess skin may need to be excised to get a better shape and outcome.
The Liposculpture results-
Although each client is unique, a person who has liposculpture at age 40 may well have the benefits for more than half of his/her life when combined with exercise and a sensible diet. Liposculpture can improve appearance and hence increase your self-esteem. Liposculpture removes fat cells permanently. It is important to note that liposculpture is not a weight loss solution. This procedure is intended to remove areas of fat in a person who is otherwise fit and healthy to create a slimmer looking appearance. You can gain the weight back after surgery and to maintain results, you must continue to pursue a healthy lifestyle.
The fat removed during the procedure can be used to add volume to the face, fill in wrinkles on the face, enhance lips or even fill in thin vein covered hands. The re-introduction of fat is called lipofilling or Fat Transfer.
