Patients looking to minimise the appearance of stretch marks and small localised pockets of fat are now choosing Carboxytherapy, a non-surgical treatment for fat sculpting on the face, neck, arms, stomach and legs. The procedure is also popular for wrinkle reduction and the treatment of dark under eye circles. The treatment for eyes is different than the technique used for treating localised fat and stretch marks.

Generally it works by injecting (with a very thin needle) small amounts of carbon dioxide gas just below the skin surface. In addition to increasing oxygenated blood flow, it also increases the circulation and the production of collagen giving a more youthful appearance.

As we grow older, the reduction of blood circulating in the body means less oxygen reaches the cells. By injecting carbon dioxide gas, the body is fooled into thinking it needs more oxygen resulting in an increase in blood flow.

It’s extremely successful in the treatment of stretch marks, as it helps to rebuild the collagen matrix making the skin thicker, thus improving its appearance. However, localised fat is removed by using a slightly different technique whereupon the fat cells are damaged when in contact with the gas.

Patients describe the sensation as ‘almost pain free’ yet ‘strange’ due to the number of differing techniques used to treat varying parts of the body. The sensation in the treatment of cellulite is slightly different due to the larger amounts of gas injected into the fatty deposits. Patients describe the sensation not unlike when someone gently squeezes your leg.

Circulation to the area improves after 48 hours following a warm sensation after treatment. The eyelids are treated without any residual marks making it a zero-downtime treatment.

Considered to be a breakthrough in non-surgical cosmetic treatments, the procedure is minimally invasive, hardly leaving any marks. A session can often be performed in less than 30 minutes, with 5 to 10 sessions required to remove cellulite, although sometimes less for other areas of the body

As with all treatments, our doctors will offer a health assessment before advising any programme of treatment, although caution is advised for those persons with breathing problems or asthma who are suggested to refrain from carboxytherapy treatment.

Qualified doctors/nurses will discuss the procedure before any treatment, explaining any possible side effects.
