PermaLip ® - Lip Enhancement

PermaLip® is a revolutionary method of enhancing lips in a single safe operation that does not require repeated treatments. Once the procedure is performed, a person can enjoy full, youthful lips for many years to come.

As a woman, it’s only natural to want to hold on to your full, plump lips. Cosmetic procedures of both a temporary and permanent nature are available to restore that irresistibly kissable look. Unfortunately, not everyone is blessed with a pair of naturally beautiful lips. Ageing lips can be rejuvenated and less full lips can be enhanced.

Many factors can affect the healthy appearance of lips. Over time the sun, the elements, smoking and the natural ageing process begin to take their toll. The corners of the mouth begin to droop. The V-shaped area of the upper lip known as Cupid's Bow begins to flatten out and lose its youthful fullness. Vertical wrinkles or Smoker's Lines begin to appear, causing your lipstick to bleed. That once sensual look is gone or greatly diminished.

A number of cosmetic options are currently available that can help to improve the appearance of your lips. Restoration of the youthful look can often improve self confidence. It is, however important to be realistic. Injections or implants can enhance and improve your natural look, but they're not about performing miracles.

A number of injectable treatments, such as Collagen and Restylane have been successfully used for lip augmentation for more several years. Injectable treatments tend to be of a temporary nature, lasting 3 – 9 months and have their own place. Recovery from injectable treatment options is generally limited to mild swelling, redness and bruising that usually lasts for a couple of days. Due to the temporary nature of the procedure, repeat injections are required on a periodic basis, in order to maintain the desired effect.

PermaLip®

Advances in Cosmetic surgery have lead to the development of a permanent solution that utilises a silicone implant.

The PermaLip® implant is made out of soft solid silicone and has been developed over the last four years by Plastic Surgeons in the United States. PermaLip® has undergone extensive testing and is fully CE Marked (Approved in Europe)

PermaLip® is a revolutionary method of enhancing lips in a single safe procedure that does not require repeated treatments. Unlike other available implants, PermaLip® does not rupture or grow into the surrounding tissue, nor harden or degenerate over the years.

The PermaLip® procedure is performed in less than an hour and leaves no visible scaring and, if requested, is fully reversible or size adjustable.

Under local anaesthesia (Similar to the injections used by dentists, to ‘numb’ an area of the mouth) small incisions are made inside the corners of the lips and the implant is inserted.

Am I A Candidate For Treatment?

To be considered a good candidate for lip augmentation, you must be in a state of good general health overall. You are not a good candidate for lip augmentation if you have:

  • Current cold sores
  • Certain diseases such as diabetes or lupus
  • Any scarring of the lips
  • Blood clotting problems
As with any medical procedure, you should tell your doctor of any allergies or any medications that you are taking and you will be required to discuss your medical history during the consultation. Certain diseases can increase your chances of complications, such as blood clots, diabetes or poor circulation. If you are a smoker, this may also be a complicating factor.

Recovery

Recovery from a surgical procedure can take up to two weeks. The doctor will discuss recovery with you during the consultation. It may be necessary to take some time off work. You will need at least three days off from work, at minimum. If you are physically active, you will not be able to exercise for a few weeks

Preparation for the Procedure

It's important that you have someone with you who can drive you home from the operation.

If you are a smoker, you may be required to stop smoking for a period before the procedure. You should follow your doctor's instructions carefully on this.

Make sure you wear loose, comfortable clothing. Be especially mindful of the shirt or blouse you choose to wear that day. It should be button down, if possible, so you do not have to pull it over your face.

You should not take Aspirin or painkillers like Ibuprofen before having the procedure.

It’s a good idea to have the following available at home:

  • Ice
  • Comfortable pillows on which you can prop yourself
  • Ointment or cream as recommended by your doctor during consultation
  • Soft foods, such as soup, pudding, oatmeal and yogurt that do not require chewing
Risks & Complications

As with any surgical operation, risks and complications are possible. You may have allergic reaction to implants or a reaction to the local anaesthesia. It should be noted that such reactions are extremely rare.

It is possible that you may experience bleeding from an implant that hardens, which may require subsequent removal. Infection or perhaps even nerve damage in some cases may occur. It's very important that you discuss any concerns with your doctor prior to surgery and that you make your doctor aware of any existing medical conditions which may cause further complications.
