LASER LIPOLYSIS
SURGICALBody Sculpting With Laser Lipolysis As more women and men want to look and feel better about themselves, body contouring and liposculpture continue to grow in popularity, making laser lipolysis one of the most popular cosmetic surgery treatments performed today.
Liposuction has been performed for a number of years, providing patients with a means to remove fat deposits from areas such as the abdomen and thighs. This traditionally used hollow metal tubes called cannulas, inserted into the desired area, with suction applied. The fat cells were permanently removed, but the size of the cannula meant patients required extended recovery times and suffer severe swelling and bruising.
This procedure was refined to vibration assisted liposculpture, using smaller vibrating instruments to remove fat cells. Advantages of liposculpture include much less swelling and bruising and reduced recovery times.
Laser systems have been used in cosmetic procedures for a number of years to perform a number of cosmetic and surgical procedures. Lasers in surgery offer precise incision, with little or no blood loss.
The next generation of fatty tissue reduction uses a laser system for combating cellulite. This procedure is based on a technique for the reduction of the fatty tissue in those areas of the body where diets and exercise are ineffective.
Laser lipolysis is an alternative to vibration assisted liposculpture. The SmartLipo laser causes the membrane of fatty tissue cells to break, transforming them into an oily substance which is absorbed and naturally eliminated by the body. Laser lipolysis provides an effective means of reducing the fatty tissue deposits in much smaller areas without the side effects associated with more aggressive surgical procedures.
How is Laser Lipolysis Performed?
A very small cannula, similar in size to a needle, containing a laser fibre is inserted into the skin. The needle delivers the laser's energy to the fat cells, causing them to rupture and drain away. The laser also interacts with the dermis, resulting in collagen shrinkage and skin tightening.
Due to the small size of the cannula, SmartLipo is classed as a minimally invasive procedure that is performed under local anaesthesia, with the patient conscious at all times. The laser causes small blood vessels to coagulate immediately on contact, resulting in less bleeding, swelling and bruising, - and a quicker recovery time.
Who is a good candidate for the procedure?
If you have areas of fat that will not respond to diet and exercise, then you may be a suitable candidate for laser lipolysis.
Which areas can be treated with Laser Lipolysis?
Laser lipolysis is not a replacement to liposuction or liposculpture. Laser lipolysis is suited to treating small areas of the face, neck, arms, breasts, abdomen, thighs, knees, calfs and areas of loose and flabby skin, including cellulite.
How many sessions are required?
Most patients only require a single treatment. The session will usually last 45-90 minutes for each area undergoing laser lipolysis treatement. Larger areas may require further sessions after 8 - 12 weeks.
What happens after the procedure?
You will need to wear a compression garment for several days or weeks, depending on the area treated by laser lipolysis. Strenuous exercise should be avoided for one week. Power showers and massage should be avoided for ten days.
Will Laser Lipolysis improve Cellulite?
The procedure will improve the body's shape and contour and smoothen the appearance of cellulite.
How long until I see results?
Results can be seen as soon as a week with improvement over several months, due to the body absorbing the fat cells that have been treated with laser lipolysis. Final results will be apparent at around 2 - 4 months following the laser lipolysis procedure.
Are the results permanent?
Adults don’t create additional 'new' fat cells. When a person gains weight, the fat cells expand in size. Laser lipolysis permanently removes the fat cells. Any future weight gain of fatty tissue should be deposited in areas where the laser lipolysis procedure was not performed.
Qualified doctors will discuss the procedure before any treatment, explaining any possible side effects. For more information or to arrange a free consultation, contact us.
