Collagen Therapy

Collagen is actually part of the natural support structure of your skin. Wrinkles form when this natural collagen layer decreases. This loss is mostly a factor of ageing, sun exposure, pollution, health, heredity and lifestyles also play a role.

Collagen Therapy (using Zyderm® and Zyplast® collagen implants), replenishes the skin’s collagen layer, smoothing lines and wrinkles, and adding definition to lip borders from the inside out. These results are immediate.

Zyderm® and Zyplast® collagen implants are natural products derived from highly purified bovine collagen that is injected just under the surface of the skin.

Like your own collagen, your body will eventually absorb this collagen so ongoing treatments are necessary to maintain results. If you discontinue treatments the new collagen is simply reabsorbed and your face gradually returns to its natural contours.

There are three steps: a skin test, the treatment series, and the periodic top-ups.

The Sensitivity Test.

To determine if you are eligible for treatment with either Zyderm® or Zyplast® Collagen, your practitioner will inject a small amount of collagen into your forearm, just below the skins surface. Both you and your practitioner should watch the test sight for four weeks for any signs of sensitivity to the material such as redness, swelling or itching. Pay special attention to your test sight during the first three days since the majority of test reactions occur during this period. At the first sigh of any of these problems, contact your practitioner.

Only about three out of every 100 tested patients showed sensitivity to the test and cannot be treated with injectable collagen: 97 percent of all tested patients can be treated. Your practitioner may wish to do a second skin test.

The Treatment.

Prior to treatment a mild anaesthetic cream is applied to the treatment area for your comfort. The collagen replacement product is then injected into the skin beneath the wrinkle. A small amount of redness may occur around the treatment area but this should go within a few hours. Treatment generally takes 30 to 40 minutes depending on the number of lines and wrinkles.

Most patients see considerable improvement in one to three treatment sessions depending upon the size, shape and texture of the area undergoing treatment.

Make-up can be applied immediately after treatment and you can return straight to work. This treatment can be very quick and effective with minimal impact on your time.
