ACNE TREATMENT
Acne is a common skin condition, brought about by overactive sebaceous glands in the skin. These glands produce oil to lubricate the skin, but when they produce too much the glands can become blocked. This can result in acne in the form of scaly red skin, pimples, blackheads and whiteheads. Severe acne can also result in cystic acne, creating deeper skin lesions knowns as cysts or nodules.
Acne tends to affect the face, the upper part of the chest and the back, as these areas have a greater density of sebaceous glands. Acne occurs most often during adolescence, however it's by no means restricted to this age group and can often continue into adulthood. Children and older adults can also have acne.
While acne can often clear as sufferers reach their twenties, there's no way to predict how long it will take to disappear entirely. Acne treatment is offered to prevent possible scarring, clear inflamed and painful areas, limit the creation of new blackheads and whiteheads and to lessen any embarrassment or stress that may be caused by acne.
